The following excerpt is from People v. Benjamin, 124 Cal.Rptr. 799, 52 Cal.App.3d 63 (Cal. App. 1975):
There is no suggestion that the addresses would have aided the defense in showing the witnesses' reputation for untruthfulness or bias. Thus, it is clear beyond all reasonable doubt that the court's ruling did not contribute to the jury's verdict. (Chapman v. State of California, 386 U.S. 18, 87 S.Ct. 824, 17 L.Ed.2d 705.) In light of the substantial showing of possible danger to the witnesses the trial court properly exercised its discretion to preclude the defense from asking their home addresses.
