Can an insurer recover interest on a claim that was denied by an insurer under an automobile liability policy?

35 In Oil Base v. Transport Indemnity Company, 1957, 148 Cal.App.2d 490, 306 P.2d 924, an insurer under an automobile liability policy denied liability. The insured settled a claim, and the court upheld its right to recover from the insurer. With respect to interest, the court held that the insurer's obligation to reimburse the insured attached when the insured made the payment which the insurer "was obligated under its policy to make, and, the amount being certain, interest commenced to run from that date".
