The following excerpt is from United States v. Christensen, 828 F.3d 763 (9th Cir. 2015):

Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 23(b) provides that a juror may be dismissed during deliberations for good cause. Good cause includes juror illness, juror misconduct, juror ification, an inability to communicate, or an inability to be fair and impartial, among other reasons. See Symington , 195 F.3d at 1085 ; Merced v. McGrath , 426 F.3d 1076, 107981 (9th Cir. 2005).
