What is the global assessment for the defence in a personal injury case?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Langille v. Nguyen, 2013 BCSC 1460 (CanLII):

For a global assessment, the defence cites Caldwell v. Ignas, 2007 BCSC 1816. In that case, the plaintiff was injured in an accident, including fracturing one or two vertebrae in his upper back. He also had soft tissue injuries to his neck and mid back. He was found to have suffered chronic pain and permanent injuries. The court found that the injuries resulted in restrictions in the capacity to perform a number of specific functions, to participate in various activities, and to enjoy a quality of life that he had prior to the accident.
