In what circumstances has liability been established in a collision between a vehicle and a moose?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Matthews v Reed, 2021 BCSC 2131 (CanLII):

In Blaine v. Hopkins, [1990] B.C.J. No. 2724, liability was established in a collision between the defendant and a moose. His passenger was injured. In finding the defendant liable, the trial judge relied on expert evidence that the defendant was exceeding the posted speed limit and, had he been travelling at or under the speed limit, the collision could have been avoided.
