Is excessive use of a police dog a ground of appeal?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from R. v Evanshen, 2020 BCSC 525 (CanLII):

In his notice to appeal from conviction, the applicant identifies excessive use of a police dog as his sole ground of appeal, and he relies on Mohamed v. City of Vancouver, 2001 BCCA 290. With regard to the appeal from sentence, his notice simply restates s. 718.2(a) of the Criminal Code, that a sentence should be increased or decreased to account for relevant aggravating or mitigating circumstances.
