The following excerpt is from La France v. Natt, 2009 BCSC 1147 (CanLII):

The plaintiff concedes that there have been other stressors in her life apart from the injuries in these accidents that contribute to her anxiety, but they were not the primary causes of her anxiety in the first place; the primary cause being the motor vehicle accidents, and the defendants are fully liable for any injury materially contributed to by their negligence, even where there are also other contributing causes (Athey v. Leonati et al, 1996 CanLII 183 (SCC), [1996] S.C.J. 102).
