Is a plaintiff entitled to claim damages for failing to recognize that he has been deprived of enjoyment of life as he knew it before the accident?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from Hamel v. Prather, 1974 CanLII 292 (AB QB):

Similarly, Martin J. said at pp. 742-43: ".… the fact that he has not now the capacity to realize that he has been deprived of enjoyment of life, as he knew it before the accident, as a result of the injuries he suffered for which he is entitled to be compensated, just as, in England, the non-recognition of or indifference to a plaintiff's loss of expectancy of life was held not to disentitle him to recover under that head of damages (Roach v. Yates [supra])."
