The following excerpt is from R. v. Anderson, 1996 CanLII 8301 (ON SC):

58 No particular form of words need be employed by the police: Eccles v. Bourque (1974), 1974 CanLII 191 (SCC), 19 C.C.C. (2d) 129 (S.C.C.) at 133-4 per Dickson J. (as she then was). Sufficient flexibility must be reserved to government authorities as to the means and content of announcement provided the substance of the common law notice is communicated to the occupant of the dwelling.
