What is the legal test for a solicitor to charge a client for an hourly rate?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Stanley A. Schwartz Law Corp. v. Starr, 1996 CanLII 3374 (BC SC):

11 I also note that Exhibit #2 does refer to the hourly rate but states that when rendering the final account the solicitors will take into consideration a number of factors contained in a decision Yule v. Saskatoon. Those factors are referred to on p.2 of the letter and are as follows: "1.The extent and character of the services rendered. 2.The labour, time and trouble involved. 3.The character and importance of the litigation in which the services were rendered. 4.The amount of money or the value of the property involved. 5.The skills, specialized knowledge, and responsibility required as your solicitor. 6.The character and standing in his profession of counsel. 7.The customary charges of other lawyers of equal standing in the circumstances. 8.The results achieved.
