Mark is a lawyer and a software developer with a passion for leveraging software to make the law more affordable and understandable. He received his J.D. from Queen’s University and in a previous life was a professional cross-country ski racer and coach.
Samarth is an ex-aerospace engineer with years of experience building machine learning software. He obtained his M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering from San Diego State University, and before joining Alexsei, was an AI research engineer at Bombardier.
Horatiu is a brilliant research lawyer and a former litigator. Driven by a love of law, access to justice, and legal technology, Horatiu joined the Alexsei team in the Fall of 2018 to help augment practices everywhere. Horatiu knows first hand the immense impact that great research can have on a matter. He completed his law degree at the University of Cambridge in 2013.
Dorsa is a first-year Dual JD student at the University of Windsor Faculty of Law and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. While completing her Bachelor of Commerce degree at Ryerson University, Dorsa had the opportunity to work at the Legal Innovation Zone as a Marketing Assistant which sparked her passion for legal technology, innovation and access to justice. Aside from her passion for the law, Dorsa enjoys baking and knitting in her spare time.
Todd G. Bissett, a partner at Gowling WLG LLP, is a widely experienced business, technology, and international transactional lawyer, licensed in California and Ontario. He previously practiced for several years in Silicon Valley and Greater China, and is a leader in the areas of emerging growth and venture capital at Miller Thomson.
Jesse is a brilliant research lawyer passionate about law and legal technology. He was project manager at Deloite before joining the Alexsei team. He completed his law degree at the University of Saskatchewan in 2015.
Shaunna uses her background in law librarianship, knowledge management and process improvement to promote innovation in legal. She enjoys home renovation projects, cooking, travelling and hanging out with her grown daughters and husband Pat. She lives in Edmonton.
Katie is passionate about legal research and increasing access to justice through legal technology. Katie graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 2017. Prior to joining Alexsei, Katie articled at a bay street law firm.
Magdalena is an expert research lawyer and former litigator. She graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 2013 and worked at prestigious civil litigation boutiques as well as her own sole practice for several years before joining Alexsei in 2020. A dual US/Canadian citizen, she is admitted to practice law in both her adopted home of Ontario (2014) and her home state of California (2020).
Tania is a sales and marketing consultant helping grow Alexsei’s customer base. Tania loves asking the question “why?” and believes if you ask “why” enough, eventually you get to the root cause of why you can or cannot do something (and usually it is that you can!).
As an always on the go Gemini, Tania has a busy home life with her two boys and makes time for all their hockey games. She also never misses a chance to jet set or visit her favourite place on Earth, the cottage!
Daniel is a lawyer and former litigator. He received his J.D. from Queen’s University. He has a passion for law, technology and innovation. When he’s not helping lawyers work more efficiently, he’s spending time with his wife and three boys, listening to jazz, riding his bicycle, or daydreaming about coffee.
Vikash is a Master of Mathematics (Computer Science) graduate from the University of Waterloo with experience in Deep Learning research. His research interests lie in Natural Language Understanding and Artificial Intelligence. Apart from keeping up with latest research and technology trends he spends his free time reading fantasy novels and playing soccer.
Carli is an expert research lawyer admitted to practice in both Ontario (2017) and New York (2020). Carli completed her law degree at the University of Toronto in 2016 and started her career in Biglaw before joining the team at Alexsei. Carli is passionate about using legal technology to help lawyers practice law more efficiently so that they can continue to deliver excellent outcomes to their clients while also making time for their own friends, families, and non-legal interests.
Kristen is a graduate of the Bachelor of Commerce (co-operative) program at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Prior to joining Alexsei, Kristen worked at several Newfoundland-based technology startups in marketing and content creation positions. Her favourite part about marketing is designing and creating images for social media. In her spare time, Kristen can be found crocheting, baking, and hanging out with her dog Gus.
Lukas just finished his first year of law school at Queen’s University, where he developed an interest in technology, law and business innovation. When he’s not helping Alexsei clients streamline their legal research processes, Lukas enjoys working part time as a research assistant for his contracts professor, cycling with friends, running, and trying out new restaurants in his home city of Toronto, Ontario.
Tamar’s mission is to deliver access to justice. After being called to the bar in 2016, she practiced as a civil litigator at the Ministry of the Attorney General, representing Ontario in corporate/commercial and public law matters. In 2018, Tamar went into sole practice with a focus on police accountability and delivering legal coaching to Ontario’s self-represented litigants. Tamar is an experienced legal researcher and is committed to helping Alexsei create innovative legal research tools that promote access to justice.
Faezah is a data engineer here at Alexsei, based in Toronto. Her background is industrial engineering and she is currently studying information management at Ryerson University.
Faezah’s professional philosophy relates to expanding expertise, contributing to society and learning new skills. She also enjoys nature, working out, and making new like-minded friends.
Kate graduated from the University of Toronto with a Specialist degree in Political Science, and attended Osgoode Hall for her J.D. Kate articled in IP law (which is deceptively interesting!). Before all that, she spent a very long time hitchhiking around B.C. with a guitar and a tent and all that will be in the book when it comes out!
Hilena is a first year law student at Lincoln Alexander School of Law. During her undergrad at the University of Waterloo, she worked with organizations that helped vulnerable groups access justice. Hilena also started a lawyer-client referral project that helps marginalized communities get matched with a lawyer according to their needs. This sparked her interest in the combination of technology and law.
Ofir is an engineer, quant, and entrepreneur, with a demonstrated history of working and managing entire multidisciplinary R&D projects. He’s skilled and interested in software engineering, deep learning, reinforcement learning, algorithmic trading, and embedded systems and has extensive knowledge in launching and extending startups and projects to production.
